Year 4 - British Schools Museum

On Thursday 1st November Year 4 visited The British School Museum in Hitchin to experience what life was like in a Victorian school. The children attended a lesson in a Victorian classroom and used slates and chalks to write with, as well as writing with ink pens. They had a maths lesson where they learnt about pounds, shillings and pence and then a reading and spelling lesson. The cane was given (only pretending!) and the dunces hat was also worn. The children also explored the headmaster’s house where they discovered what Victorian life in the home was like. The children found the experience fascinating and enjoyed spending the day as Victorian pupils in costume.
