Friday Round Up 10/3/17

Dear Parents,

Punctuality

After my moan last week, I am delighted to report a general improvement in time keeping this week. Well done everyone and thank you, it really does improve the start of the school day.

Parent and Staff Coffee Morning

These were the topics we discussed at last week’s Coffee Morning;

 Pupil voice and engagement in the schools Behaviour Policy

 Confirmation that children are not allowed to bring a mobile phone to school

 Sharing the results of Pupil of Week with the children in each class

 Examine approaching The Toby Carvery to ask permission to use their car park for parent parking

Parent Support

The attached leaflet details dates for a drop in centre in Loughton offering free advice for parents needing support with mental health issues, debt, budgeting, housing, domestic abuse etc.

Head lice

The number of Head lice incidents in school have increased recently. NHS advice is for a school to hold a regular Head lice Day (I’m not joking) where every parent checks and treats their child on the same day, hence removing head lice from the school community. Therefore, may I suggest next Friday 17th March as our day giving you the weekend to carry out any necessary treatments and leaving us Head lice free on Monday 20th. It’s worth a try and thank you for your support.

Public Speaking Competition

Congratulations to Zoe Kan, Ruby Coyte and Amelia Nusrat who represented St John’s at this year’s Epping Forest Public Speaking Competition. Having won the first round earlier this term they went onto the Final this week and came first overall. An excellent achievement and the first time we have won this competition since its inception four years ago. Thank you also to Mr Coyte for his coaching of the team.

Easter Hat/Easter Photograph Competition

As Easter approaches we are holding an Easter Competition. We are inviting the children in Reception and KS1 to design an Easter hat. The children in KS2 may either design a hat or take a spring photograph for an Easter display. There will be a prize for the most creative hat and photograph. Please bring the entries to school by Monday 27th March. We are looking forward to seeing the entries.
